1987 — DARPA Strategic Computing Initiative

Andy Levy was invited to present at Columbia University on Knowledge Bases and the DARPA Strategic Computing Initiative — one of the earliest explorations of large-scale AI applied to national defense. That same year, he co-authored research on Expert Systems for Risk Assessment for BDM International.

1988 — American Airlines Gate Assignment

While others were still debating whether AI had practical business applications, Andy was presenting An Expert System Approach to the Gate Assignment Problem at the TIMS/ORSA Joint National Meeting in Washington D.C. — AI-driven optimization for one of the world's largest commercial airlines, decades before machine learning became a boardroom buzzword.

1990 — Federal Aviation Administration

Andy presented to the Federal Aviation Administration at the Workshop on Human Factors Issues in Artificial Intelligence in Air Traffic Control — addressing AI safety and human-machine collaboration in mission-critical systems.
